France’s Mont Saint-Michel in Second Life™

“Moeka Kohime has recreated this beautiful building in Second Life. It is, without the doubt, the most accurate replica of anything I have seen in world.”

As far as Second Life architecture goes, there is always something to talk about. Whether futuristic designs straight from the imaginations of residents or replicas of existing real life builds, this is one area of Second Life where the creativity of residents is really let loose. Although there is no shortage of amazing buildings in Second Life, every now and then, one comes along that really does make your jaw hit your keyboard. The replica of Mont Saint-Michel does just that.

The real life Mont Saint Michel is a tiny rocky island just off the coast of Normandy, Northern France. It is also a commune, housing some 50 people. Its biggest tourist attraction, however, is its absolutely stunning monastery. Moeka Kohime has recreated this beautiful building in Second Life. It is, without the doubt, the most accurate replica of anything I have seen in world. This is no mean feat, particularly when you consider the complexity of what she set out to replicate! What sets it apart from other spectacular monastery builds, other than its amazing accuracy, is the meticulous attention to detail. Not only has she built the monastery, but she has also built the island up in much the same way it actually is in real life. From the car park at the foot, to the winding streets of houses and shops that pave the path to the entrance of the monastery, it is all there.

Mohime has, it seems, rented out the shops on the paths upwards, a grand idea, if you ask me. But this has not taken away from the spectacular beauty of her build. Fortunately, with this build, the inside also does the outside justice. Often, in world, I find that the exterior of such ambitious building projects is often let down by the interior. This is not the case here. Although photographs will indicate something of the level of quality, they could never really do it full justice and I therefore heartily recommend a visit.
