I was telling a NaNoWriMo participant friend of mine about the various Second Life resources available for writers like us. It would be nice, I thought, if I could interest her in creating an account and meeting me in one of several writerly spaces, like the one I blogged last time, to work on our novels.
“Yes, but what I want,” she said, “is the ability to set off fireworks every thousand words. Each time I get another thousand in, boom! Fireworks!” (I am paraphrasing.) “Can Second Life do that?”
“Why, yes,” I told her, “yes, it absolutely can.”
I was thinking at the time of Pillars of Hercules, a shopping mall cum dance club that, at the time I visited, had a button that set off a fireworks display. But who wants to get up from your typewriter, teleport elsewhere, press a button, and then come back? Your writing buddies wouldn’t even see the fireworks! What fun is that?
Recently Earn2Life sent me the solution to this problem: the Park’s Fireworks Store in Taber.
When you get there, you’re in front of the main store. They change their display often, but right now there are a number of demos set up on the ground in the front yard. (Make sure you’ve got “Hide Particles” unchecked in your VIEW menu or else most of the fireworks will be invisble to you.) If you like what you see, head into the store and go shopping. Some purchases are one time only or similarly finite, others are limited use. You can get the store’s entire catalog of unlimited-use fireworks (“The Whole Shabang!”, sic) for L$9999.
There are no refunds, so make sure you like what you’re buying.
Make sure to avail yourself of the free stuff! Take a sample Treasure Fountain (only 50 seconds instead of the 90-second paid item, contains only 1 prize instead of 3 and no L$ prizes) or the unlimited use Parks Fireworks rocket (“Your too can put your name in lights!”). And visit the “Free Stuff !!!” barn for vehicles, clothing, and more.
So put a rocket in your pocket against those times when you just need to celebrate with FIRE. For instance, when you reach the next 1000 word landmark on your NaNoWriMo novel…
