The MetaMeets 2010 conference began May 7th hosted by the Dublin Institute of Technology (Ireland). The conference will present applications for virtual environments in the areas of communication, creative entertainment, business and social networking, education and information management.
Promoted as “Europe’s premiere 3D Internet Developer and Community Conference” the premise is to provide examples of successful use of virtual world technologies and to inspire new and innovative approaches.
Some of the notable speakers include Mark Kingdon (M Linden, Artist and CEO of Linden Lab), Jonathan Himoff (CEO of Rezzable_) and Paul McDonagh-Smith, Director of Learning Applications at Avaya. Also in attendance will be Robin Harper (SimCity™ and Second Life® developer), Justin Bovington (CEO of Rivers Run Red™) and Joe Greene (Technology Enhanced Learning at Intel)
Philip Rosedale will be presenting on “The Love Machine” the much rumored and mysterious project that took his attentions away from Second Life. While precious little is known about “The Love Machine” project it has been discussed as a “reputation currency system” for businesses where employees can award each other points or “love” for good demeanor, ethic and productive team results. Those points would then be translated into cash incentives for employees. An interesting Human Resource application for a virtual world!
The technology and communication giants Nokia and Intel will also be in attendance in Dublin.
Second Life sponsors of MetaMeets 2010 include our very own Metaverse Broadcasting Company (MBC), Rezzable_, Thinkerer, Slim Warrior Productions, MaMachinima and Rockcliffe University Canada.
