Yes, you heard that right, the creator of Minecraft is committing harry carry. Subtly announced this morning on Twitter, Notch said that he will be “… making the moon and the sun round. I am very sorry.” Circles, in a land full of blocks. Is Notch making a mistake?
Apparently the change from a square sun and moon to a circular, is for some sort of feature regarding moon cycles. It is assumed this will have to do with farming and animal breeding and who knows what else.
The next official update version 1.9 for Minecraft looks to be the last before the games official release scheduled on November 11th, 2011. Version 1.9 implements various new features such as adding baby animals, dragons, a new dimension, potions and more. This was originally scheduled to be released on October 18th, but have postponed any official release for version 1.9 until Minecon, the Minecraft Convention being held in Las Vegas. It is still unclear if they will release the full version on target date, or will wait until Minecon which starts on November 18th.
Either way it appears the features added in 1.9 will be the last features before the game is polished for official release. Minecraft, which has sold over 3 million copies already may be paving the way for new process in the way games are developed and sold. Minecraft was opened to the public very early on in development, and with user input coupled with several million sales propelled the game to legendary status, all before official release.
