I felt certain it was a typographical error. Surely the note card and invitation was meant to say “human” and I intended to question them on it when I sat in the first class of a new lecture series offered by Rockcliffe University titled, “Solutionary Edu 3: Money, Politics & Berlusconi.” Intrigued, I made my avatar self comfortable in a plush leather seat and sat back to learn.
Humane Education is defined as a method of integrating compassion and respect for animal welfare, environmental and social justice in a way that encourages critical thought to reconnect human beings to their environment on a local and global scale. It encourages independence of thought and evaluation of media influences.
Students were asked to evaluate the true cost of a bottle of water. The monetary cost of the item is only the starting point. What is the cost of shipping that water to the environment? What is the health cost of drinking water stored in plastic bottles? What is the generational cost to landfills which become burgeoned with plastic refuse? The multidimensional thinking of the “true cost” of actions every day is the source of the Humane Education movement.
One of the things that amazes me about three dimensional virtual environments such as Second Life is the proliferation of opportunities to broaden concepts through free information sessions and classes offered by various non-profits. Rockcliffe University is a quality institution with a plethora of content and facilitators who provide these educational opportunities for free. Real world education topics offered in real time voice and with a real impact on expanding your scope of understanding, from philosophy to business topics. Tools for non-profits and private users and other skill enhancement course content.
Carl Solutionary provided an excellent lecture and was an organized and informed moderator with the credentials to deliver content that was meaningful. The lecture discussed sociopolitical themes and was broken into three modules to review Consumerism, Money/Politics and the core of Wall Street Economics. The third and last section was spiritual in tone titled “The Council of All Beings” which explored the human connectivity through all interactions, right down to the type of food you eat, the products you buy and the inequities you may support with your purchase and participation decisions on a daily basis.
The topic matter was fascinating and I thoroughly enjoyed the format of the lecture which enabled participants a “break out session” to complete a “writing dash” to reflect on their thoughts. A powerful tool to in-doctrine some of the concepts provided in the lecture and walk away feeling inspired about the ability to influence global change with our personal and deliberate intention.
Sounds trippy, right? It was. So don’t miss the next one offered at Rockcliffe University on Monday January 23rd, 2012 at 2pm SLT(PST) or 5pm EST. The cost is free and no pre-registration is required. The course is delivered in voice and in Italian and English text. Click here to teleport to Classroom A at Rockcliffe University.
