… Solidea Folies SS12 Collection
Rounded, colorful, soulful faces with wide inquiring eyes that seemed to not only open up to the spectator´s scrutiny but also to pierce all the way into the deepest corners of your being. Some were solemn, curious, surprised. Others were confident, expressive, intelligent… mysterious. This was the theme of Mila Tatham´s latest collection presented for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 earlier this week. The Collection, appropriately called ¨Faces¨, was presented in a Show handled by The Ministry of Fashion (MOF) and although I believe this was MOFs first official event, the professionalism of everyone involved was extraordinary. From the music chosen and spinned by DJ & MOF CEO Ephram Magic, to the Hostess and MOF Owner Valentina Inaka to the setting. Everything was expertly handled.
The Runway, in shades of gray and white, was expertly made to look like an oversized artist´s work desk, complete with color palette and paintbrushes. Created by the talented builder Willilicious Lupindo, if there was a lack of color on the runway it was only to make the magnificent prints and shades of the collection stand out even more. What made it the perfect runway was the fact that it did not overpower the models nor the clothes as is often the case, but rather, stayed humbly ennobled at their service. On the walls there were enormous frames with pose balls to create a ¨tableau vivant¨ for the grand finale.
Something else made this show a special one: These models, a carefully selected few, worked hard to highlight the collection rather than their own personas and to a photographer´s and a spectator´s delight, they posed long enough to allow the ensemble to properly and completely rezz for the audience, and to have time to properly position cameras. They took their time (longer than 30 seconds) to allow the crowd to admire the creations and get an intimate feel of the entire collection.

Another innovation was that the ensembles presented during the show were right then and there available for purchase ¨in situ¨ to those who attended the show. An audience that loves to be on the Fashion & Style forefront loved this thoughtful detail which allowed them to hold the exclusivity of the pieces if only for a few days. This was a high fashion collection, reminiscent of Custo Barcelona in its play of color, prints and its irreverence yet maintaining an unusual sophistication. The designer Mila Tatham has an uncanny ability to make intricate extravagant pieces architecturally simple in their form and to the eye. There is nothing improperly exaggerated about what she does. As such, the collection highlights the avatar and the personality who wears it. The prints on the pieces were pieces of artwork created by another great artist: Riri Bazar.
In the words of Mila, the real inspiration was Riri Bazar´s Portrait Series. She admires Riri as an artist because she is able to capture the real person. Riri made a portrait of Mila and was able to capture her real essence even though they have never met in person. As one in attendance said ¨I can´t wait for winter to go away so that I can wear these clothes. ¨ I say, this is wearable couture, juxtaposing fantasy & reality, high fashion, feeling & soul. The collection should be available in store at Solidea Folies beginning on February 5th. In a virtual world full of Ready – to – Wear , Mila Tatham can be considered the SL designer of wearable Haute Couture, and if MOF keeps up the good work, they will soon become the agency to go to when your audience deserves nothing but the best. Until next week….Muaccckiss
