Inspired by the Miss Virtual World Pageant

Perhaps it’s because of the media and their perception of it, pressure by men, or even by women themselves, beauty has always been something we seek. In Second Life, beauty is not hard to achieve. Sure, it might take some money to look just the way you want, but I find it so marvelous that there is a place where you don’t have to starve to look good, or, you know,  go to drastic measures to create your very own perception of beauty. Maybe that’s the reason I get so drawn to Second Life. At any rate, that’s me. The upcoming Miss Virtual World Pageant got me thinking about our differences in the world, our ideas of fashion, our perceptions of beauty.

That’s when I got inspired. What better time to take a break from the usual store hunting, and talk about world fashions. A kind of road trip to include something about several countries into your wardrobe, and even an outfit for the day. No, I didn’t go full out native, that’d be silly, I don’t think any of us want to go around Second Life with a sombrero, well, maybe some would but that is not my point. This is about inserting a taste of a different culture, in a manageable style, that transcends daily fashion and adds sparkle to your everyday choices.

Let’s start with North America. My inspiration for this is the Gossip Girl show. I’ll admit, I’m a dork and a lover of all things Gossip Girl, but, when you can add fashion and drama into one show.. I’m all ears and attentive. Any who! Lately, in American fashion, we’re starting to see a trend of going into the past, the more.. vintage feel, and what not.. and I have to say, I’m totally in love with this! So, what I did was grab one of the collections from Collabor88, the dress and socks both.. which was great, really, this look didn’t even dent my wallet, I think all in all it was around,  276L$ for the outfit? Finish it off with some heels, and you have a vintage look that is very much in style in North America.

Now let’s travel South of the border, down into South America. One thing to keep in mind, this land is extremely diverse. It ranges from snowy mountain tops, to beaches, to deserts. People are different, lands are different, and the culture is different everywhere. However, there is one thing that you can see that every one in South America loves. Life! Happiness! Colors! South Americans aren’t afraid to show off, and live in the wild side. Think Rio at Carnival. So, in order to channel this into my fashion, I gave my avatar an airy look in the hair, made it a little bit more free flowing to channel that carefree attitude that many South American women have, and then gave the outfit a pop of color with the pants, in order to just give it a kick and zest to the outfit.

Shrimp on the Bar B? Beer? Australia ! I guess they’re known to be carefree, adventurous, and very easy going. I’ll be honest.. I might have gone slightly stereotypical on this one.. though I did not add the hat! Notice the lack of hat! It was done so purposely. What I did do though was grab a flannel tied top from Intrigue add it with some boots and some jeans to create a very easy going, casual look that can fit any day activity! Even going to work.. unless you have a very conservative job.

Europe. The capital of fashion. So many fashion meccas, so little time. So, what to do to channel Europe in your daily fashion? One thing.. Class. Sophistication, beauty, minimalism, class. Note:  Minimalism does not mean to go around half naked! It means to channel your inner Kate Middleton. Elegant, beautiful, poised, and conservative! What I did to incorporate this into my style.. well, it was easy, I saw this cute little dress in Collabor88 from Ingenue, which was perfect, especially given the season too. Love the puffy end long sleeve style of it, and the texture of it.. it was to die for. Now, since it was way too simple, I adorned it only with a necklace, of the same color of the dress. This necklace is also found in this month’s rotation of Collabor88, from LaGyo, note worthy, the gem does change color to fit your outfits. Finally, I got some tights from Mon Tissu, and finished it off with some pumps, and pulled back hair to reveal more of the face, a la model style, and there you have it; a European inspired look that you can use anywhere.

Finally, Africa. And yes, I’m aware that there are a couple more areas that I didn’t do. I did the ones that truly inspire me and weren’t too blatantly obvious, or difficult! I don’t really see many fashion trends coming out of Antarctica. Alright! Back on topic! Africa. When I think, Africa, I see color, lively people, and a lot of celebration. Of course, we also see the images of the poor, the struggling Africa,  but apart from all the hardship, I’ve always seen Africa as a strong continent, filled with vibrant life. It’s for this reason that I went with an unlikely color on my dress, a yellow short dress with a tail on it, and the reptile texture on front. Finish it off with some pumps, and you’ve got a killer sexy look that will wow anyone at a cocktail party in Nairobi,Kenya or maybeLagos, Nigeria.
