Friday, September 27, 2013 – 7AM SLT Onwards, ‘Til We All Fall Over… Hosted By Metaverse TV
Pearl Island, part of the Metaverse TV installation, has been home to The Gerry Blache Virtual Project for a few months now. Entitled, “A Wonderful Gift,” a film streams in-world at the Island, in which Gerry talks about her diagnosis of cancer, her experience with the professionals, and family around her.
And she should know. Gerry has worked in this field as a psychologist for many years and wanted to talk about the subject from a different perspective. Metaverse TV runs the film in five parts, and Pearl Island is open 24/7.
Many different events have been held at the Island, which hosts a spa, massage, Tai Chi, private sharing spaces and relaxing meditative environments, as well as a laid back music and communal area.
It is Gerry’s wish that anyone wishing to do so would donate to the Macmillan Organization and the wonderful Macmillan Nurses. The more money raised, the more accessibility to this invaluable service that can be facilitated. A collection box is located on Pearl Island, where Metaverse TV has been been accepting donations on behalf of the Macmillan Fund.
“What’s the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning about?”
Eating cake at a coffee morning… The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support’s biggest fundraising event. People across the UK, and sometimes further afield, hold a coffee morning, where donations on that day are made to Macmillan. In 2012, 115,000 people signed up for coffee morning, raising a record £15 million, or close to $25 million USD.
This year the goal is to raise even more money to help change the lives of people affected by cancer. Find out how Macmillan helps — check out the video below:
Dousa Dragonash, of Metaverse TV, believed this cause to be wholly appropriate as a Second Life event and for The Gerry Blache Virtual Project at Pearl Island. Guests are welcome to partake in virtual cake and coffee, recipes, music, and general chat. Everyone is encouraged to bring their friends, a swimsuit, or just themselves and some lindens, best dancer, best avatar, and Guess the Coffee Beans…
According to the good people at Metaverse TV, “We will ask donations for a piece of cake, we may well have some recipes… Dousa doesn’t. Although she is good at eating cakes, she isn’t much good at making them. Feel free to send her recipes though, and we can sell those along with the cakes.”
Entertainment includes Mankind Tracer on Friday, Russell Eponym and Tukso Okey on Saturday. DJStu and Foxxe Wilder of the Wilder Zone and Tawny Dinzeo will play host and will see to the general making merry throughout the weekend.
If you want to be part of a worthwhile cause and share your time with other generous spirits, be sure to attend this event at Pearl Island. Eat virtual cake, sip pixelated coffee, dance with old friends and new, simply bask in an atmosphere of caring and friendship. You don’t even have to get out of bed! ___________________________________________________________________________
